Past recipients of the Award of Excellence reflect on what being part of PWT has meant to them and winning the award.

Roxanne Paquette, Passenger Experience Representative – Red Arrow Motorcoach

“To love my work, is to love my life….” This phrase is part of Roxanne’s personal philosophy. After six and half years, Roxanne continues to take great pride in her work, enjoying the hustle and bustle of helping her passengers. Co-workers compliment Roxanne on how giving she is of time and knowledge. In 2014, customers sent in 19 unsolicited compliments praising Roxanne’s performance.
Roxanne has shown great talent for creative thinking and problem solving. Her abilities to assess a situation and find a mutually beneficial solution are what have made her stand out as an exceptional person – personally and professionally.
Many have learned from Roxanne to keep the focus on making things work right; on being accountable for creating success.

Sue van Steenoven — School Bus Operator, Southland Transportation, Calgary, Alberta

Sue

Sue started with Southland in 1997 and has been a great example of ‘living the core values’. Teamwork has been pivotal in Sue’s professional driving career.  Volunteering for projects such as the company social committee,  Calgary Stampede Parade as well as being  an active participant in the  city, provincial and national School Bus Roadeos.    Over the years,  Sue’s  also been an important part of the  company  recruitment  campaigns, appearing in numerous  print and visual media commercials.

Truly an ambassador for  professional  school bus operators everywhere, Sue  has been  nominated twice for the prestigious Tourism Calgary -White Hat awards.   In April 2006, Sue  was the first school bus operator to win the Driver of the Month Award  from the  Alberta Motor Transportation Association.

Sue’s motto  “I believe I can” exemplifies  her winning philosophy in all things; blending safety superb  customer service,  demonstrating accountability, resourcefulness, and dedication,  Congratulations Sue.

Iona Sedore — Charter Bus Operator, Pacific Western, Toronto, Ontario


Iona joined Pacific Western Transportation Ltd. with the acquisition of Simcoe Coach Lines where she drove school bus, line run and charter for 17 years. All seniority was carried forward with the purchase and Iona has a total of 40 years of driving experience. Iona is #1 in seniority as a Charter Operator at Pacific Western Transportation and enjoys the multi-day trips around Ontario, Quebec and into the United States.

Over the past 23 years,  Iona has driven over 4.5 million kilometers. In 2005 she received the National Transportation Lifetime Achievement Award from Transportation Health and Safety Ontario Association (THSAO).

Truly a driving professional, both her charter clients and colleagues have high praise for her problem solving abilities and positive influence as a role model. “…my goal would be to become a driver like her”.

Rick Wiebe — Milton Transit, Milton, Ontario

Rick joined PWT in 1979 as a driver with Prince George Transit. Very quickly, the operations team realized that Rick possessed many talents and was very capable of wearing more than one hat at a time. Thus began his multi- level career path with PW Transit; Driver,  Driver Trainer, Driver lead hand, Transit planner/scheduler, as well as a member of the City of Prince George Transit Advisory Committee. Before transferring to Milton, Ontario, Rick was the acting Manager of Prince George Transit.

Now as in the past, Rick thrives on challenges. He is renowned for how he approaches delicate situations; always with an open mind and trusting demeanor. Over his 33 career with Pacific Western Group of companies, Rick has been a role model of each of our ten core values starting with safety and continuing with dedication. Rick was the national winner of the R.B. Colborne Award of Excellence celebration held in Milton, Ontario on February 27th, 2012. Family, friends and co-workers were in attendance to share in his achievement.

The board of directors for PWT is proud and pleased of  Rick’s growth within the organization and look forward to his continued success.
